When you ponder the various ways that the Minnesota Timberwolves have been able to add players to their roster, the story of how undrafted center Naz Reid was able to work hard and claw his way through the ranks to finally land a huge payday on a multi-year NBA contract has to stand out as one of the more heart-warming tales about this Timberwolves roster.

After all, Naz Reid did not get drafted. He did not start at the top of the food chain. For all intents and purposes, he did not even appear on the Timberwolves’ radar save for his future potential. And yet, that potential was realized now.

Of course, that now begs the question: “Who’s next?”

Do the Timberwolves have the bandwidth to continue to develop NBA-ready players in the G-League Iowa Wolves roster, and then clear playing time for them in the rotation? Or does that faucet get turned off as the team advances further and further into the NBA Playoffs?

The Minnesota Timberwolves and the Iowa Wolves have forged a great relationship, and it’s the ability of both the NBA and G-League sides of the equation that will combine to generate optimal NBA players. Last season, the Timberwolves leaned heavily into the Iowa Wolves to afford coaching and playing minutes to C Luka Garza, F Matt Ryan, F Josh Minott, and G Wendell Moore Jr.

This year, the Timberwolves have already signed C Luka Garza and G Jaylen Clark to Two-Way contracts. And if there are not enough minutes to go around, rookie F Leonard Miller could be seeing some playing time with the Iowa Wolves as well. All in all, it’s a great way for young Timberwolves players to ensure that they get all of the coaching and playing time necessary to ensure a smooth track to a productive NBA career while ensuring that the Timberwolves can continue to compete with the best of the NBA at the same time.

Who do you think steps up to the next big NBA contract after having competed for the Iowa Wolves? I suspect G Jaylen Clark will in the discussion, but I’m eager to read your thoughts in the comments section on Facebook.
