2. Gorgui Dieng

Another prominent player from the 2010s in Minnesota, Gorgui Dieng spent the first seven seasons of his career with the Timberwolves. His best season in the Twin Cities was unquestionably the final year before Thibs’ arrival in 2016-17.

That season, he started all 82 games for the Wolves while putting up 10 points and 7.9 rebounds per game. But in later years his role would diminish, as he became less effective with age. He was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies in 2020, where he enjoyed a solid season and a half before being bought out.

After his buyout, he signed with the San Antonio Spurs in 2021. Dieng would depart for a one-year stint with the Hawks before returning to San Antonio in 2022, where he remains on the roster.

Though he is just 33 years old, Dieng looks to be close to the end of his career. His playing time has been dwindling over the last several seasons, and he is no longer quick enough to keep up in a league that only continues getting younger.

While Dieng may not be one of the greatest players in Minnesota Timberwolves history, he is one of the longer-tenured. Many players come through Minneapolis for just a season or two, but Dieng remained on the Wolves’ roster through seven seasons and four head coaching changes.
