As the Minnesota Timberwolves pivot to the 2023-24 NBA season, there is renewed optimism that this will be their season.  But as we all learned last year, horrible things can happen, and even great plans can go astray.  If that is the case, the Minnesota Timberwolves will not remain over .500. If that happens, this dream can quickly become a dark nightmare for the team.

Or will it? Are fears greater than reality? If the Timberwolves slip in the NBA standings, there will be no shortage of NBA teams that circle overhead, like buzzards flying over a wounded animal, waiting for that animal to fall to the ground so that they can pick at its bones.

High demand equals high prices

But multiple NBA teams make for high demand, and high demand means inflating prices. If the Timberwolves stumble, NBA teams will drive up the price of the pieces at the 2024 NBA Trade Deadline.

While that may not be the most optimistic scenario, it is one that the Minnesota Timberwolves and fans must prepare for. The Timberwolves are in a battle for their playoff lives as the team enters the new 2023-24 NBA season. While the Timberwolves continue to battle and show signs of fight in them, the team continues to slip further and further out of the NBA Playoff picture.

The possibility of the Timberwolves not making the 2024 NBA Playoffs this season is still very real, and it’s something that neither the fans nor the organization will be happy about.  But while the Timberwolves traded a massive package to acquire Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert, that is not the crown jewel that is attracting so much interest from other NBA teams.
