There are plenty of reasons to be excited about the upcoming season for fans of the Minnesota Timberwolves. Coming off a year where the team battled through extensive injury trouble and still gave the defending champions what they called their “toughest series” of the playoffs, there is every reason to think the Wolves will be a dangerous bunch.

On top of that, Anthony Edwards only continues to get better. Minnesota’s best player is one of the most exciting young talents in the NBA, and his continued rise to full-on superstardom significantly raises the Timberwolves’ ceiling.

But perhaps the thing many Wolves fans are looking forward to most in the upcoming year is finally getting a full season to see how Karl-Anthony Towns and Rudy Gobert mesh. After all, the two talented big men only shared the court for 27 games in the regular season last year.

One stat that is sure to excite fans in the Twin Cities was shared by NBA University on Twitter. The account published a list of the top alley-oop partners in the NBA last season, defined by the most alley-oops recorded between two players. It also noted that Towns and Gobert were on pace to be on the list as well.

KAT and Gobert were on pace to be one of the top alley-oop duos last season.

The account did not note specifically where the Timberwolves’ big man duo would have landed on the list, but to know they would have been among the top 10 alley-oop duos in the NBA is exciting nonetheless. With as much outside criticism as the Towns and Gobert pairing has received, it is refreshing to have confirmation that something special could still be in store there.

This stat speaks to the already-present chemistry between Rudy Gobert and Karl-Anthony Towns. In a very short amount of time, they were able to find each other for above-the-rim scoring plays consistently, and that certainly gives fans something to look forward to next season.
