When D’Angelo Russell comes to mind, many fans of the Minnesota Timberwolves are going to recall his viral comments from a few months back when he infamously expressed that he believed he had been held back by the organization. But when D’Lo went on Pat Bev’s podcast, he explained how some of his words were misinterpreted.

Russell explained that in dealing with LA media, one reporter repeatedly tracked him down to ask him on his time in Minnesota. D’Angelo responded by telling the reporter that his time with the Timberwolves was great.

“It was my first time really playing in a system where I’m a part of the system,” said Russell. “It was pass, swing, swing. It was all these factors that played into my success.”

D’Lo’s words about being held back were taken out of context

Ultimately, the words about “being held back” were interpreted that way by the reporter and never actually said by D’Angelo Russell. “I never really felt that, never really said that,” said D’Lo, referring to the viral headlines.

Russell explained that he wanted to make Minnesota his home. As such, he made sacrifices and was open to changing his role for the good of the team. One can understand how this may have been misunderstood as him saying he was held back.

After the news of D’Lo’s alleged comments broke, Russell said he even texted Head Coach Chris Finch to let him know he appreciated him and his time with the team. Now that D’Angelo Russell has cleared the air on this issue, Wolves fans will likely regain their positive feelings for him.
