The truth is that just about anyone and everyone has weighed in on some form of trade scenario that involves the Minnesota Timberwolves’ misunderstood and underappreciated power forward/center Karl-Anthony Towns. But the same can be said of Portland Trail Blazers point guard Damian Lillard, who has himself been the focus of numerous trade speculation, scenarios, and rumors as well.

So why not combine the two?

If it was that easy, why didn’t anyone think about it sooner? Well, that may be the reason. It may simply have been overlooked. So many trade scenarios for the Trail Blazers have fixated on the Miami Heat, the Los Angeles Lakers, the LA Clippers, the Boston Celtics, and the New York Knicks, that small-market teams like the Minnesota Timberwolves were all but ignored.

But that is about to change.

Simmons solution to Trail Blazers impasse

That is what NBA analyst Bill Simmons proposed in a recent podcast, one in which he reportedly suggested that Damian Lillard should be a bit more open-minded about his team options, and consider the Minnesota Timberwolves as one of his preferred destinations.

Still, an NBA trade is more than just spitballing. Both the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Portland Trail Blazers must believe that their respective teams would emerge as a winner from a trade of this magnitude.

The challenge for any trade to succeed between these two teams is the need to give the Portland Trail Blazers enough assets to build their future, without crippling the future for the Minnesota Timberwolves. And there is also the counterbalancing need for the Timberwolves to get full value from Lillard’s arrival without being forced to break the bank for their own roster.
