Anthony Edwards simply has too many ways to win for Team USA
By Bret Stuter
If Minnesota Timberwolves star shooting guard Anthony Edwards does not score 20+ points for Team USA, their opponent in the 2023 FIBA World Cup competition has to love their chances of winning, right? Well, perhaps. But not as long as they cannot keep the 6-foot-4 shooting guard from imposing his will in the paint in other ways.
You see, he doesnโt have to score to beat you. Today, he led his team in rebounds, as Team USA overwhelmed Team New Zealand by a score of 99 to 72:
Thatโs pretty demoralizing when you think about it. Even when he does not score at will, Anthony Edwards still has many ways to defeat your team.ย And that is something that the Minnesota Timberwolves and fans should take notes to recall later in the year when the 2023-24 NBA season begins.
In the meantime, Timberwolves fans can continue to cheer for the heroics of Anthony Edwards, as he continues to lead Team USA through international competition for the 2023 FIBA World Cup. So how exactly are all of the Timberwolves players doing so far?
- Anthony Edwards, Team USA ๐บ๐ธ (1-0)
- Naz Reid, Select Team USA ๐บ๐ธ (NOT COMPETING)
- Nickeil Alexander-Walker, Team Canada ๐จ๐ฆ (1-0)
- Rudy Gobert, Team France ๐ซ๐ท (0-1)
- Kyle Anderson, Team China ๐จ๐ณ (0-1)
- Karl-Anthony Towns, Team DR ๐ฉ๐ด (2-0)
- Luka Garza, Team Bosnia ๐ง๐ฆ (NOT COMPETING)
- Matteo Spagnolo, Team Italy ๐ฎ๐น (1-1)
- Coach Pablo Prigioni, Team Argentina ๐ฆ๐ท (NOT COMPETING)
Thatโs a lot of competition to track. So far, in terms of rankings (due to the way games are scheduled), Karl-Anthony Towns and Team Dominican Republic are in front with two wins.
Team USA (1-0) next plays against Team Greece (1-0) on Monday, August 28. It begins early, so you can likely get an update over your Monday morning cup of coffee.
