It is a well-known fact that Patrick Beverley is one of the most beloved former players among the Minnesota Timberwolves’ fanbase. Despite playing just one season in the Twin Cities, he made an indelible mark on the franchise that still resonates with fans over a year after his departure.

It was Pat Bev’s fiery attitude and valuable leadership skills that played a major part in helping Minnesota get back to the playoffs in 2022. The mojo he brought to the Wolves’ locker room was unmatched, and many fans still rally for him to return to the team to this day.

But despite the constant outpouring of love from fans in Minnesota toward Beverley and his tendency to reciprocate those feelings, recent events will likely make fans question the former Wolves player for the first time. Pat Bev appeared on Gilbert Arenas’ YouTube channel this week as the two discussed Anthony Edwards and his incredible talent.

Pat Bev’s latest comments will make Minnesota Timberwolves fans question him

In the video, the hosts and guests are comparing Ant to the legendary Michael Jordan. One of Arenas’ co-hosts asks Beverley if Edwards needs to get out of Minnesota. Pat’s response is sure to drive a stake between him and the Wolves’ fanbase. “He will get out of Minnesota,” said Beverley. “That’s just what happens.”

Pat goes on to explain what he means by this. Of course, he was in the locker room and on the floor with Ant Man for a full season, so he knows exactly what kind of player Edwards is. “He is the type of player that you need to see,” said Beverley.

The argument being made by Pat is that Edwards will inevitably get less media coverage in Minnesota than he would playing for a big market team like in New York or Los Angeles. Beverley referenced the fact that the Wolves have far fewer national TV games this season than one would expect for a team featuring a talent like Edwards.

Of course, he is spot on in pointing out that the Timberwolves are being heavily underrated by the national media. But where he goes wrong is in suggesting that Anthony Edwards will need to leave Minnesota and go to a big market to get that recognition.

It is important to remember that the best players create a legacy for themselves wherever they go, no matter the market size. Franchises like the Chicago Bulls and San Antonio Spurs were without any championships before Michael Jordan and Tim Duncan showed up.

Patrick Beverley’s comments likely came from a place of pure love for Anthony Edwards and his sky-high potential. But he should remember that Edwards is more than capable of blazing his own trail and commanding the respect he deserves with the Minnesota Timberwolves.
