2 Studs and 1 dud from first Timberwolves preseason game
By Will Eudy
Dud: Matt Ryan
It was admittedly hard to find a dud performance out of all the players that took the floor for the Timberwolves on Thursday. Everyone that got in the game for Minnesota played at least 10 minutes, and no one had a truly awful night.
But Matt Ryan did ultimately fall below what many were hoping for. He failed to make a shot from the field, going 0-for-3 and missing all of his three-point attempts. Outside of that, he did not really bring much else to the floor.
While not many were expecting Ryan to come in and burn up the nets, it is rather disappointing that he could not capitalize on his opportunity. Matt is currently on a two-way contract with the Timberwolves, and will be splitting time between the big league club and the G League Iowa Wolves this coming season.
As such, he is not expected to be part of Head Coach Chris Finch’s rotation. The only way that circumstance would change is if he showed out in practice and preseason to a point where the coaching staff was forced to switch things up.
So far, we have no indication that such progress is being made. However, players that can shoot the basketball are always valuable. If Matt Ryan is to earn his way into the Timberwolves’ rotation, it will be on the back of his three-point shot.
