It won’t be long before everyone else realizes the same thing, but every Minnesota Timberwolves fan knows that this 2023-24 team has the potential to be the real deal. You are starting to see that the national media is giving them a bit more respect with all of the recent weekly power rankings. And some people are bringing them up as the best team in the NBA.

But, as usual, not many people are even paying attention to what the Timberwolves are doing. They were 6-2 for the first time since 1999 when they finished with a first-round exit, but this time feels different. That’s not me saying they will be better than a first-round this year, but it could be a lot better by how things look.

The NBA is not ready for what could transpire this season, and that is the Timberwolves taking that next step. This team is having a special start, and while no one is really talking about it, one NBA scout is trying to warn the rest of the league. Here is what HoopsHype wrote a scout said about the Timberwolves in 2023-24:

“The Timberwolves are coming. They defend at a high level and play with a chip on their shoulder and hard. I think they’ll be one of the top four teams in the West if they stay healthy this season.”

The Timberwolves are first in defensive net rating and have several players in the top 15 in that category. The defense is playing out of their minds right now, as evidenced by their making things extremely difficult on Nikola Jokic using a two-defender system with Rody Gobert and Karl-Anthony Towns in their win over the Denver Nuggets.

They have now beaten the top two teams in basketball, the Nuggets and the Boston Celtics. They blew a 20-point lead to the Atlanta Hawks and could very well be 7-1 right now. Anthony Edwards has taken that next step and looks like a top-10 player in the league.

The Timberwolves are certainly coming.
