The collection of talent that the Minnesota Timberwolves have put together by way of the draft and trade is remarkable. Two guys have made all-defensive teams: Mike Conley and Rudy Gobert, who has also won a Defensive Player of the Year Award.
They have Karl-Anthony Towns, who is one of the best big men in the league and one of the best seven-footer shooters ever. Pair him with Anthony Edwards, one of the best young players in the league, and you get a team that looks incredibly good right now.
Edwards has taken a huge leap this year from last season. Last year, he was a scorer first, and his passing took a step forward. This year, he is a scorer first but has had moments where he has looked to get his teammates involved. And his defense, man, don’t get me started. He has really turned himself into a great on-ball defender.
The Timberwolves are truly set up for a while if they can continue to play the way they have the last eight games. Not to mention, they also have a guy who could be the next Michael Jordan. I mean, that is what NBA scouts are telling one ESPN analyst.
“I was talking to some scouts before last night’s game, and one of them said about Anthony Edwards that ‘he’s the next Michael Jordan’… He’s coming for Giannis’ crown as the best two-way superstar.”
That is probably the highest praise we have ever heard Edwards get. One scout recently said he was a top 10 player in the league, but this scout and Tim McMahon are saying he can be the next GOAT, but also the next best player in the league, who is currently Giannis Antetokounmpo.
The Timberwolves certainly have themselves a superstar in the making, and if he can get to that Jordan-esque level, which we have really only seen maybe three players be there ever, then the Timberwolves could be in line to get their first-ever ring.
