Anthony Edwards could put Timberwolves in LeBron James disaster situation

If Anthony Edwards makes the Minnesota Timberwolves make a trade this summer, it could be a mess, much like when LeBron James did the same.

According to Brian Windhorst of ESPN, Anthony Edwards may not be too thrilled with the current state of the Minnesota Timberwolves’ roster: “Going forward after this series, the Minnesota Timberwolves future is in question. Somewhat because of what Ant feels about the roster.” Should Edwards actually try to force Minnesota to make moves, the organization could find itself in a LeBron James-type situation.

Throughout the years, James had his teams make moves in order to propel them into title contention. Sometimes, the trades worked out, and other times, his team found itself trading for Russell Westbrook. Perhaps Edwards could help the Wolves reach new heights if he forces them to make trades. But they could also hurt the roster.

That’s a dangerous position to be in.

Anthony Edwards could put Wolves in LeBron-type situatoin

Edwards might be right. The Wolves may have to make some moves if they want to successfully enter title contention, especially with the San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder towering over the Western Conference.

Reports have indicated that Minnesota would like to build around its core of Edwards, Jaden McDaniels, Naz Reid, and Joan Beringer. That means they could be willing to trade most other players.

Julius Randle and Rudy Gobert, in particular, could hit the trade block, especially if the Timberwolves find the right type of return package on the trade market.

That said, the Wolves should want to work without the pressure of Edwards breathing down their neck. That’s what James’ teams had to deal with, and it’s a tough spot to be in.

Because when a team feels like it’s being forced into making a trade, then they may end up making a bad trade, or they may rush into a deal they aren’t sure about.

So, while Edwards may not be super pleased with the current state of the Wolves’ roster, it’s important that the situation doesn’t reach the point where Minnesota feels like it’s being forced into making a move.

He might be right. The Wolves may have to shake things up this summer. But Edwards and the Wolves need to handle this summer the right way, or they could be put in a bad spot moving forward.

Some of the trades James funneled his teams into making worked out for the better. But sometimes, they didn’t. Sometimes, they led to disaster. (Need I remind you of the Westbrook years in LA?)

That’s the last place Minnesota should want to find itself this offseason.
