There was no question that Monday night felt like a must-win game for the Minnesota Timberwolves. After losing three contests in a row, the final of which featuring a 53-point outing from Anthony Edwards but still resulting in a loss, the Wolves needed to take care of business at home against the LA Clippers in a big way.
After a 19-point comeback and a back-and-forth fourth quarter, Minnesota did just that. Emerging with a close 108-106 victory, the Timberwolves found a way to get the job done behind another big night from their best player. Anthony Edwards finished with 37 points, eight assists and six made three-pointers.
Between his previous outing against the Detroit Pistons and Monday against the Clippers, Edwards has now scored 90 points in his last two games, which ties a franchise record for most points in any two-game stretch. The other record-holder? None other than Karl-Anthony Towns.
This is far from the first time we have seen Ant do something that only Karl-Anthony Towns has done before in the history of the franchise. It is yet another achievement that speaks to his talent, and further proves that he can eventually become the greatest player in Timberwolves history.
Edwards tied KAT for another Timberwolves record
Late in the game on Monday, Edwards made the two most clutch shots of the contest. With 1:12 remaining in the fourth, he drained a 24-foot three-pointer to put Minnesota up two. Then, with 34 seconds left and the Wolves up two, he sunk a 25-footer to effectively end things for the home team.
With the game iced, Ant turned to the crowd to hype himself up a little. "They said I fell off," he shouted. "Don't worry about me." What a satisfying moment this had to be for Edwards, especially after what has been going on for the last several weeks.
It was just a few short nights ago after the loss to the Boston Celtics where Ant spoke of how difficult scoring felt for him at the time. Drawing double teams and not being able to play his game was frustrating him, and he did not attempt to hide that whatsoever. We knew that it was going to be hard for the Timberwolves to reach their ceiling if Edwards did not look like himself.
Now, the vibes appear to be shifting. Ant is back to scoring in bunches, and this time it led to a win as well. This is looking more like the brand of basketball we saw from the Timberwolves a season ago, and Edwards re-finding himself plays a big part in that.
