In the third quarter of the Minnesota Timberwolves' game with the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday, Anthony Edwards was ejected after receiving his second technical foul of the contest. On a play in the third quarter where he drew contact on a drive to the hoop without getting a call, Edwards was visibly frustrated. Clearly, he said something to the referee that earned him the technical.
Heading into this game, Edwards had 14 technical fouls to his name this season. After picking up two in Los Angeles, Ant has now reached the league's threshold of 16 technicals, which means he is automatically suspended for a game. Unless one of the two he picked up against the Lakers is rescinded, he will be forced to sit out for the Timberwolves' game against the Utah Jazz on Friday.

Edwards' latest technical automatically handed him a suspension
The first technical Edwards picked up in this one came at the end of the first quarter, when he got into a brief altercation with Jarred Vanderbilt. As he was exchanging words with his former teammate, it seemed like it could be a halfway friendly interaction at first. But things quickly got heated, and the two were hit with double technical fouls.
It seemed that the referees were a bit whistle-happy on Thursday. Not only did Ant get his second technical on a play where he was legitimately fouled, but Naz Reid also picked up a tech in the fourth quarter for arguing a call in a perfectly normal and controlled way.
The NBA will review these two technicals that Edwards received, and will reveal whether either of the two will be rescinded on Friday. However, Wolves fans should not hold their breath here, as Ant's suspension is likely to be upheld.
