Anthony Edwards, seen as one of the game's top scorers, is just 24 years old. Selected with the first pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, many already see him as the second-best Timberwolves player in team history (of course, only behind Kevin Garnett). In the Wolves' game against the Spurs on Sunday, Edwards set a new franchise scoring mark for most 30-point games while donning the Minnesota jersey.
The Timberwolves have won two straight games against winning teams! With how long it took them to accomplish that even once, that sentence absolutely deserves an exclamation point at the end. It was a successful weekend for Minnesota (can't be said for the Minnesota NFL franchise) as they defeated the 11-9 Celtics on Saturday and the now 13-6 Spurs on Sunday. Prior to those two outings, they had been 0-7 against teams that are currently over .500.
102nd regular season game of at least 30 points
After a rather brief shooting slump, Edwards has certainly found his stroke once again for the Timberwolves. In Sunday’s victory, he dropped 32 points on a super-efficient 13-18 from the field (4-6 from beyond the arc). That marks the fifth-straight outing that the 6-foot-4 superstar has scored at least 30.
Sunday’s performance was the 102nd instance in the regular season of Edwards going for 30+ points. That is a new Timberwolves franchise record, as he entered the game tied with Karl-Anthony Towns with 101. Garnett is third with 82 games of 30+ points.
It took Edwards a good amount less time than it took Towns to reach those marks. Sunday was Edwards’ 397th game. Towns spent his first nine seasons playing with Minnesota and made 573 appearances with them.
Edwards has improved his scoring average every year
On the season, Edwards has scored at least 30 points in 10 of his 16 appearances. He is averaging 28.7 points per contest, currently good for 10th in the NBA.
That would be a career-best for Edwards, who has seen his scoring average increase every year he has been in the league. The three-time All-Star finished fourth in the league in scoring in 2024-25 averaging 27.6 points.
This season, Edwards has three games of 40+ points. That is a team record that he already held entering the season, as he now has 22 games of at least 40. Tied for second in franchise history are Towns and Kevin Love (13 each).
