Anthony Edwards just showed off his genius plan against bad teams

Before the season, Anthony Edwards said he would try to get a career-high against bad teams, and he was ultra-aggressive on Friday.

Before the season, Anthony Edwards mentioned that he was going to implement a new approach against bad teams; instead of trying to get his teammates involved, he was going to try toget a career-high. You could argue this was meant to be humorous rather than a real goal. However, there's no denying that having Ant dominate against bad teams is an easy recipe for success.

Friday's game against the Utah Jazz was Ant's first game against a true bad team this season. While Edwards didn't deliver a career-high, he very well might have had he played the whole game. En route to a 137-97 win for the Minnesota Timberwolves, Edwards racked up 37 points, five rebounds, and an assist, while shooting 12-21 from the field and 7-12 from 3-point range. Impressively, Edwards did this while playing just 26 minutes.

Notably, this marked Edwards' eighth straight game in that he scored 30-plus points against Utah. Additionally, this was his second career game in which he scored 30-plus points in under 30 minutes. Edwards' running mate, Julius Randle, also recorded his second triple-double in three games.

Edwards' mindset against bad teams was on full display Friday

Ant-Man was straight up surgical on Friday. Many of his 3-pointers came off the dribble, and he was creating his shot at will. Ant came out extremely aggressive. The mindset that he mentioned on media day was evident. Notably, Edwards scored 14 points in the first quarter, including six points within 90 seconds of the game. The Jazz simply had no answers for Ant.

Edwards had a rare off-night in his first game back from his hamstring injury on Wednesday night against the New York Knicks. He shot just 5-13 from the field en route to a 23-point loss. Regardless, it's awesome to see that Edwards bounced back and that his hamstring is no longer bothering him.

The Wolves will take on the Jazz again next Monday, giving Edwards another chance to make a run at his career-high of 53 points. Utah offers little defensive resistance; this, paired with Edwards' open desire to set his career-high, could be the perfect storm. Whether it happens against the Jazz on Monday or another game, Edwards feels primed to set a career-high this season.

Overall, while Edwards' comments on media day were objectively funny, this mindset will also help him take care of business against bad teams, and Friday is proof of that.
