Anthony Edwards looks like a genius for his long-time Bones Hyland stance

Anthony Edwards pushed for the Wolves to re-sign Bones in the summer and advocated for him to play minutes earlier in the season. Maybe Ant should become a GM when he retires.

I think every Minnesota Timberwolves fan has been surprised by Bones Hyland's season. Regardless, Hyland has had some long-term supporters in the Wolves' organization. Most notably, Timberwolves president of basketball operations Tim Connelly drafted him back in Denver and brought him back last season before signing him to the team's final roster spot in September.

Anthony Edwards has been another long-time supporter of Hyland, though. In the summertime, Ant advocated for the Timberwolves to bring back Hyland. Furthermore, Ant lobbied for Bones to play minutes earlier in the season when he was stuck behind Rob Dillingham.

It's safe to say that Ant has been proven right for his belief in Bones, who established himself as a clear part of the Wolves' rotation. In the past four games without Edwards, Hyland has been playing his best basketball of the season, averaging 20 points, 2.5 assists, and 2.0 rebounds with shooting splits of 52.9/44.8/92.9.

On the season, overall, Hyland is averaging 8.0 points, 2.5 assists, and 1.6 rebounds with shooting splits of 46.7/39.5/77.9. Every night, Hyland sparks the Timberwolves with his pace and microwave scoring.

Bones Hyland complements Anthony Edwards nicely

Beyond Hyland simply being a dynamic player to watch, his playstyle clearly benefits Edwards. Hyland's ball handling and shot creation help take the pressure off Ant in the backcourt. Having some extra pace next to Edwards is another obvious benefit.

And when Ant is off the court (or out of the lineup entirely), Hyland helps the Wolves' offense stay afloat with his shot creation.

Minnesota has been searching for this type of point guard next to Edwards for years. Frankly, this is what the Wolves envisioned Dillingham to be. With Bones and Ant on the court, Minnesota has an impressive 122.6 offensive rating (93rd percentile per Cleaning the Glass).

By all accounts, Hyland helps bring out the best aspects of Ant's game, and he is a great fit next to him in the backcourt.

Bones Hyland is (hopefully) a long-term fit with the Timberwolves

Undoubtedly, Hyland's emergence is one of the best stories in the entire league. The 25-year-old guard was nearly out of the league and considered signing a contract overseas. Going from this to a key rotational player on a playoff team is simply remarkable.

It will be interesting to see what Hyland's impact looks like in the playoffs, given his inconsistent scoring and slight frame. Nevertheless, there's no denying that the Hyland experience overall has been a massive win for the Timberwolves.

While it might get difficult financially, the Timberwolves will prioritize re-signing Bones in the summer, and I think all fans are hoping that Hyland has found a long-term home in Minnesota. Tim Connelly rightfully gets credit for not giving up on Hyland when most of the league seemed to. However, Edwards also deserves partial credit for his long-time belief in Bones.
