We've all seen the clip by now, even if we hadn't seen it previously. I'm referring, of course, to the summer 2023 video from an Anthony Edwards interview, wherein he expressed his desire to play against Draymond Green and the Golden State Warriors in the NBA playoffs. Now, with the Minnesota Timberwolves' 121-110 win over the Dubs in Game 5 on Wednesday, Edwards has officially come full circle on his wish.
Minnesota closed out the series in five against their Western Conference rivals, winning four in a row after Golden State took Game 1 at Target Center. Stephen Curry was not available for the last four games, but give credit to Ant and the Timberwolves for not taking their foot off the gas and taking care of business against an undermanned roster.
Julius Randle was incredible for the Wolves all series long, and Minnesota's role players poured in big contributions over the course of the last five games as well. Reaching a second consecutive Western Conference Finals means this is officially the most prosperous era in the history of the Timberwolves franchise.
Edwards finally got to shut down Draymond Green's trash talk
But it also can't be ignored that one of the biggest storylines from this series remains the Draymond Green piece. Edwards made it clear that he had a desire to match up with the four-time champion Warriors and Green specifically, due to his trash talking.
Wolves fans were tormented last May when they had to watch Draymond join the NBA on TNT crew and relentlessly go at Rudy Gobert and Minnesota as they were eliminated by the Dallas Mavericks. That incident probably only added fuel to Ant's fire.
It certainly fired up the fanbase. There was already quite a bit of history between Draymond and the Timberwolves, so getting this series victory in this fashion just made it that much sweeter.
Minnesota now moves on to face the winner of the Oklahoma City Thunder and Denver Nuggets series. When they do, they can move forward knowing they already shut down one of their biggest haters in Green.
