Anthony Edwards put up record-setting night in win over Raptors
By Will Eudy
Ever since dropping their opening night contest to the Los Angeles Lakers, the Minnesota Timberwolves have found their rhythm. They followed up their loss with a close win in Sacramento, followed by a victory over the Raptors in their home opener on Saturday.
The doom and gloom that many were trying to put on this team after beginning 0-1 has lifted, and this team already starting to find their groove. In Saturday night's victory over Toronto at Target Center, Anthony Edwards reminded Wolves fans of his greatness once again.
In the win, Edwards put up 24 points and four assists. But the most impressive part of his night was the five three-pointers he nailed. Yes, Ant has made five or more threes in a game plenty of times before (46 times to be exact). But it was those five threes that helped him reach an incredible landmark accomplishment - he became the youngest player in NBA history to make 800 threes in a career.
Ant became the youngest player to nail 800 threes
At 23 years and 82 days old on Saturday, Edwards is officially the youngest player to ever accomplish this prestigious feat. Of course, him doing this is not all that surprising considering his tremendous shooting talent, but it is still notable and worth celebrating.
Ant was given a certain green light from the moment he stepped on the court his rookie year in 2020-21. He has had plenty of opportunity to bomb away from beyond the arc, and he has more than capitalized on those chances. Edwards is currently shooting 35.4% from three-point range for his career.
Also of note is the fact that Ant tied Stephen Curry for the fifth-fewest games to reach 800 threes with his performance on Saturday. He and Steph both took 305 games to reach that number in their respective careers.
This is yet another reminder of who the Timberwolves' franchise player is. Edwards has been a sensational talent from day one, and he only continues to improve. The older he gets, the more he will continue stacking up records like this one.
