Anthony Edwards is a unique talent in many ways. Minnesota Timberwolves fans have seen him evolve from a raw, young talent into one of the best players in the NBA in just a few short years. His strength and athleticism fuel a well-rounded game that makes him a lethal scorer against any defense while also being able to compete at a high level at the defensive end.

But perhaps every bit as impressive as Edwards' transcendent on-court abilities are his personality and unique confidence in himself. The world found out about this trait of his during Ant's rookie year, when he boldly proclaimed that he would dominate any sport you put him in. In the words of the Wolves' star: "Tennis, swimming, lacrosse, whatever you need me to play, I'm gonna go do it."

Since then, Edwards' talent may have evolved, but he retains the same confidence in himself he entered the league with. In the new Netflix documentary Court of Gold, which retells the story of the 2024 Team USA Olympic squad, we saw a surprising scene wherein Ant and the rest of the US national team met former United States President Barack Obama.

Edwards was his usual confident self while speaking with Obama

The interaction between Edwards and the former President went just about like you'd expect. While some might think Ant would tone down his personality around someone as well-known as Obama, those who truly know what he is about understand why he did not change his demeanor one bit: because Edwards is as real as they come.

The on-camera conversation began with Obama asking Joel Embiid a question. "What do you think about this young guy?" asked the former President. "He can hoop a little bit, huh?" Edwards was having none of the small talk. "Man, y'all better stand down," he said. "I'm the truth."

Ant still wanted to give Embiid some credit as well. "He's cold though, I gotta give him credit," Edwards said of Joel. "He gives us 50 every time we play him." Obama began to add on top of that remark, noting that Embiid can get his even against the Timberwolves' two seven-footers (Rudy Gobert and Karl-Anthony Towns at the time, pre-trade). Edwards' response was blunt. "We ain't gotta do all that."

There is something endearing about someone like Anthony Edwards who is unapologetically themselves no matter who they are around. This interaction with the 44th US President was simply the latest example of his usual behavior.
