Ayo Dosunmu is making a definitive statement about his future role with the Timberwolves

This is the guy you pair Anthony Edwards with in the backcourt for the future.

For the past year, it's no secret that Tim Connelly and the Timberwolves have gone star hunting. Most notably, trying to pair Anthony Edwards with Kevin Durant in the offseason and Giannis Antetokounmpo at the trade deadline. Fans have also discussed possibly pursuing star point guards like Ja Morant and Kyrie Irving.

While I still believe Tim Connelly is going to find another second star to pair with Edwards, I think they've solved their franchise point guard situation. Ayo Dosunmu just put the Wolves on his back in Game 4, scoring 43 points on a completely absurd 13-for-17 from the field, 5-for-5 from 3-point land, and 12-for-12 at the line. The NBA world was shocked by this performance, but Wolves fans have figured out that this is who he is.

Dosunmu's performance was truly heroic considering Donte DiVincenzo's heartbreaking torn Achilles injury and Edwards' bruised knee injury.

Ayo is the perfect point guard to pair with Edwards long-term

When describing the tools you want in a guard to pair with Edwards, there are a few boxes that need to be checked. The first one is that they need to be able to defend the ball, which Dosunmu does. The second is that they need to be able to play on and off the ball, which Dosunmu does. The third is being able to run a good offense in the non-Edwards minutes, which we just saw wouldn't be an issue.

When the Wolves traded for Dosunmu, I'm not sure they envisioned him taking over games like this. He was originally supposed to fill the backup point guard void that the Wolves had, but he's been that times 100.

The best part is that he fits the Anthony Edwards, Jaden McDaniels, and Naz Reid timeline with Dosunmu only being 26 years old.

He just proved that his game is built for the postseason

If I read you Dosunmu's playoff shooting splits, I doubt you would believe me. But I can assure you it's real. He's shooting 64 percent from the field (!!), 52.9 percent from 3-point range (!!), and 94.7 percent from the line (!!) through the first four games of this series. Game 4 in particular was the stuff of legends, maybe one of the best playoff games I've ever witnessed from a Timberwolf.

He's the type of player whose role can be scaled up or down, perfect for a playoff atmosphere. Players who have games as big as he just did in the playoffs aren't usually a fluke. The Timberwolves may have found a star point guard in plain sight.
