There have been plenty of ideas put out there recently by pundits and fans alike about how to improve the Minnesota Timberwolves. After all, they are still looking to achieve the overall level of success they reached this past season. The offense still has its issues, though more answers are being found for that problem in recent weeks, thanks to things like Chris Finch's unexpected starting lineup change.
As the NBA world psychoanalyzes this team, all sorts of names are weighing in with their opinions about what the magic fix is. Some of these ideas are pretty thought out and insightful, others not so much.
Recently, former NBA All-Star DeMarcus Cousins gave his thoughts on the situation on FanDuel TV. With Jimmy Butler's current situation going on with the Miami Heat, plenty of people have brought up the idea of Jimmy returning to the Twin Cities and teaming up with Anthony Edwards. Cousins appears to be a fan of the idea. "Dogs need other dogs with them," he said.
Cousins is an advocate for the Timberwolves acquiring Jimmy Butler
It is safe to say that many fans in Minnesota are not going to be too hot on this idea. Back in 2018, Butler cut ties with the Timberwolves and essentially burned his bridge with the organization when he asked out publicly following the now-infamous practice incident. A large portion of the fanbase has now sworn off Butler, not wanting anything to do with him again. For die-hard fans of the team, this is a totally understandable stance given how he exited.
But if we step back for a moment to consider this hypothetical pairing purely from a basketball standpoint, it could actually work rather well. At the very least, putting Edwards and Butler on the floor together would seem to be a better fit than Ant and Julius Randle are at the current juncture. One thing Jimmy and Edwards seem to have in common is the winning edge that DeMarcus speaks of.
The discussion over this is largely pointless, as you would have to think there is an almost zero chance the Timberwolves would look into bringing in Jimmy Butler again, considering their history. But at the very least, Cousins seems to think it would be a good idea.
