Fans won't believe D'Angelo Russell's wild take on Timberwolves

The Minnesota faithful might have some questions here.

The D'Angelo Russell experience. If you are a Minnesota Timberwolves fan of longer than a couple of years, you remember what this was all about. The offensive-minded point guard is known for being able to create his own shot, and also for his ability to catch fire when he is feeling it. He took Wolves fans on a roller coaster ride over the course of three seasons with the team.

Now, after a couple of years with the Los Angeles Lakers, D'Lo has re-joined the Brooklyn Nets, in his second career stint with the team. When he is not hooping, Russell has gotten into the podcasting game, hosting The Backyard Podcast. He has hosted several interesting guests, including his old Timberwolves teammate Karl-Anthony Towns.

One discussion between the two on D'Lo's podcast was concerning the Timberwolves' blockbuster trade that sent Towns to New York last September. KAT confirmed a lot of the details we already know. "They came to my house with like two minutes before Shams," Towns said. "I could tell they were in a rush to tell me something. Literally while I'm sitting there still stunned, Shams was calling."

D'Lo gave his take on the state of the Timberwolves

But then, as the two got into discussing the Timberwolves in their current state, Russell weighed in with his honest take, and one that might not sit well with a lot of Wolves fans. "When I watch their team, I'm like, 'you know who they need? KAT,' " D'Lo said. "And then I'm like, 'yo, they need me,' like honestly. I'm like, 'they need what they got rid of.' GM, that ain't my job. But I'm just saying, like, I feel like we could make their team better right now."

In a practical sense, it is easy to understand what Russell is saying. Minnesota needs more scoring power and shot-making from the point guard position, and he could certainly bring more of that to the table than Mike Conley is able to do right now. But on the other hand, Wolves fans are not going to want to accept what he is saying purely based on the messenger.

Fans of the Timberwolves know what D'Lo brings to the table, and they also know he can be a very streaky shooter at times. Some members of the Minnesota faithful may still have a soft spot for him, but it feels like most are going to find this take from him to be just a little bit of a reach.
