Kyle Anderson spent two seasons with the Minnesota Timberwolves from 2022 to 2024. Since then, he has bounced around the league, playing for three teams in two seasons. Anderson signed with the Golden State Warriors in the summer of 2024.
While Anderson signed a three-year deal with the Warriors, he was promptly shipped off to the Miami Heat as part of the Jimmy Butler trade. Then, during this past offseason, Anderson was traded to the Utah Jazz as part of the three-team Norman Powell trade.
With the Jazz, Anderson has played in just six games, and has only played three times in the past month. Anderson has been a DNP coach's decision in 10 games this season.
The Jazz are a rebuilding team, and despite still being a solid contributor, Anderson hasn't been able to crack the rotation. As a result, I don't think anyone would be shocked if Anderson is on the move again at or before February's trade deadline.
A Kyle Anderson trade makes sense for both him and the Jazz
It's easy to look at Anderson not playing and say that he's washed. And hey, maybe the 32-year-old is on the decline. However, I think he still has something left in the tank and could be a nice low-cost trade target for a contender. Plus, with all due respect, I doubt he wants to stay in Utah.
Despite his sporadic minutes, Anderson is still averaging 7.5 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 3.8 assists on 52.8/100/66.7 shooting splits. Last season, he averaged a solid 16.4 minutes per game with the Warriors and Heat. The year before, he averaged 22.4 minutes per game with the Wolves.
Anderson has a well-rounded skill set as a secondary playmaker and scorer. For competitive teams looking to bolster their forward depth, I don't see why they wouldn't pursue an Anderson trade. I also wouldn't be shocked if this ends with Anderson being bought out because he clearly has no future in Utah.
Could the Timberwolves look to reunite with Anderson? I wouldn't rule it out, but point guard should be the clear position for the Wolves to upgrade at the deadline. The Los Angeles Lakers, Houston Rockets, and Detroit Pistons jump out as possible landing spots for Anderson. That's all speculative, though.
My larger point is that Anderson will likely be on the move again this winter, and there should be a reasonable amount of interest.
