Monte Morris has spent the last eight seasons playing in the NBA. That includes playing for the Minnesota Timberwolves after they acquired him at the 2024 trade deadline. On Tuesday, it was reported that the 30-year-old agreed to a non-guaranteed deal with the Pacers. That has since changed, and Morris still remains on the market.
Monte Morris is no longer joining the Pacers
Shams Charania was the first to tweet out that Morris was heading to Indiana, with Michael Scotto later pointing out that it was a non-guaranteed deal. With Tyrese Haliburton likely out for the season, a path was possible for the 6-foot-2 point guard to earn his way on the opening night roster. He could have been the team's third point guard behind Andrew Nembhard and T.J. McConnell. Unfortunately, Morris will no longer have that opportunity.

Pacers general manager Chad Buchanan announced on Thursday that Morris has a calf injury. That ailment has caused Indiana to instead look elsewhere and puts Morris back on the free agent market.
Pacers won’t be signing Monte Morris, GM Chad Buchanan says. He’s actually hurt with a calf injury. They’re still looking for guard depth.

Later on Thursday, it was reported that the Pacers were adding point guard Delon Wright on a training camp deal. The 33-year-old spent last season playing for the Bucks before being traded to the Knicks. The 10-year veteran combined to average 3.1 points and 1.9 assists in 15.9 minutes for both teams.
Morris was acquired by the Wolves at the 2024 trade deadline
On February 8, 2024, the Wolves acquired Morris from the Pistons in exchange for Troy Brown Jr., Shake Milton, and a 2030 second-round pick. The deal was made because Minnesota was looking for a steadying backup to Mike Conley. Jordan McLaughlin had been gobbling up much of the reserve minutes at point guard prior to the team adding Morris.
While Morris had an incredible 12+ assist-to-turnover ratio (61 assists, 5 turnovers) in his 27 regular season outings for the Timberwolves, Chris Finch did not call his number often in the postseason. Despite reaching the conference finals, Morris appeared in nine playoff games for just 67 total minutes. He struggled to find his shot during his brief time on the court in the postseason, shooting just 9-30 (30%) from the field and 1-14 (7.1%) from three-point territory.
Morris was a member of the Suns last season. With Phoenix, he posted averages of 5.2 points and 1.6 assists in 12.7 minutes. It remains to be seen if he can quickly overcome his calf injury and find himself on a roster for the upcoming season.
