Former Timberwolves players taking part in EuroBasket

Donte DiVincenzo and Rudy Gobert will not longer participate in EuroBasket, but there are still some former Wolves playing in EuroBasket.

If Timberwolves fans weren’t aware of EuroBasket before, most are now. That is because of the recent news regarding shooting guard Donte DiVincenzo.

The 28-year-old was slated to play for Italy, but that will no longer occur. A left big toe ailment has forced him out of the tournament, and there is not yet official word as to what the extent of the injury is. Fans are concerned though, because a left big toe injury sidelined him for a little over a month last season.

Rudy Gobert, who could have represented France, has opted not to play in EuroBasket. With DiVincenzo and Gobert now not taking part, there are no active members of the Timberwolves playing in this year’s EuroBasket tournament. There are two former Wolves, though, including one that was on the roster last season.

The FIBA EuroBasket 2025 tournament is set to begin on August 27 and run until September 14.

Luka Garza played the last 3 seasons with the Wolves

A college star at Iowa, Garza joined Minnesota after playing his rookie year with the Pistons. The 6-foot-10 center has spent the last three seasons with the Wolves. This offseason, though, he signed a deal to play with the Celtics.

Now 26 years old, Garza appeared in just 92 games over his three years with the Timberwolves. He dropped a career-high of 25 points with Minnesota on February 8, 2023, in an outing against the Jazz. During his Minnesota tenure, he posted averages of 4.5 points and 1.6 rebounds.

Garza will be participating in EuroBasket with Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Juancho Hernangomez last played for Minnesota in 2021

Starting his career with the Nuggets, Hernangomez was traded to the Timberwolves in February of 2020. The 6-foot-9 power forward would start all 14 of his appearances for Minnesota the rest of the season.

He remained with the Wolves for one more full season in 2020-21. On January 5, 2021, he scored 25 points against his first team (Denver), the most he put up while donning a Timberwolves jersey. Altogether in 66 games with the team, Hernangomez averaged 8.4 points and 4.7 rebounds. He has spent the last few years playing for Panathinaikos in the EuroLeague.

Hernangomez will be a member of Spain’s EuroBasket squad. They are the reigning gold medalists from the 2022 tournament when they defeated France (who rostered current Wolves center Rudy Gobert) in the finals. Hernangomez was on that gold medal-winning team as was Lorenzo Brown, who played 34 games for Minnesota over two seasons.
