On Friday afternoon, the Minnesota Timberwolves announced injury updates for Terrence Shannon Jr. and Julius Randle. Both players have been added to the injury report for Saturday's home game against the Washington Wizards.
Terrence Shannon Jr. injury update
Back on Jan. 11, Shannon suffered a Grade-2 mid-foot sprain while playing with the Iowa Wolves in the G League. He was set to be re-evaluated in two weeks, with a two-to-four week return to play timeline.
The team provided this update for Terrence on Friday: Shannon Jr. has been cleared for full-contact, 5-on-5 basketball activities, and will be listed as Questionable on the Status Report for tomorrow’s game against the Washington Wizards.
Julius Randle injury update
During the Timberwolves' win over the Utah Jazz on Thursday, Randle left the contest and headed to the locker room in the second quarter after appearing to strain his groin. He has now been diagnosed with a right groin strain, and is listed as out for the Timberwolves' game on Saturday.
As for the injury timeline on something like this, it will ultimately depend on the severity of the ailment. If Randle has a Grade 1 strain, he will likely be out for a week or two. Anything beyond that, and we could start to see him miss closer to a month or even more.
We've got something of a carousel situation here where one guy is now going to be sitting out with an injury but another could be back in short order. Of course, it is not like Terrence Shannon was a part of Chris Finch's main rotation before being sidelined. But we have already seen how injuries have forced this coaching staff to adjust, and now Shannon could be a candidate to play more as well, at least until Randle is healthy once again.
