Minnesota Timberwolves power forward Julius Randle is a Texas native through and through. The 30-year-old was born in Texas and lived there throughout his childhood and high school. He didn’t leave the state until college, where he spent one year at Kentucky before entering the 2014 NBA Draft. Therefore, it shouldn’t be surprising that he’s a fan of the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys. Much like most Cowboys fans, and NFL fans in general, Randle had a reaction to the stunning Micah Parsons trade.

Micah Parsons trade didn't please Julius Randle

Thursday brought the shocking news that the Cowboys traded Parsons to the Green Bay Packers in exchange for Kenny Clark and two first-round picks. The much-publicized contract dispute between Parsons and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones resulted in the 26-year-old superstar being dealt.

Randle went on X to share his displeasure about the trade. It’s a sentiment shared by the majority of the Cowboys’ fan base.

Cowboys fans will get to see the pass rusher extraordinaire exactly one month after this deal was made. In Week 4 of the NFL season on September 28, the Packers will be heading to Dallas.

Randle hasn't seen much team success from his Cowboys

It’s understandable why Randle would say it’s hard being a Cowboys fan. He wasn’t around to see them during the Troy Aikman/Emmitt Smith/Michael Irvin days when they won three Super Bowls. They became known as 'America's Team', a moniker that still exists for them, but doesn't make much sense given their recent lack of success.

Randle was born on November 29, 1994. The date of the Cowboys’ most recent Super Bowl win was January 28, 1996. It’s safe to say that Randle was not yet a Cowboys fan at that time, as he was just 14 months old. They haven’t even reached the NFC Conference Championship game since, so the three-time NBA All-Star has yet to watch his favorite NFL team make a deep playoff run.

His Cowboys fandom was a point of contention for some Knicks fans back when he played for them. Of course, many Knicks fans also root for the Giants, an NFC East rival of the Cowboys.

Meanwhile, Randle is preparing for his second regular season with the Timberwolves after being traded to them in the 2024 offseason. The Wolves have reached the Western Conference finals the past two seasons, getting deeper in the playoffs than the Cowboys have in three decades.
