Anthony Edwards filed a challenge in hopes of making himself eligible for regular season awards despite playing in 61 games (which falls short of the 65-game minimum). While the NBA approved the challenges of Cade Cunningham and Luka Doncic, Ant's case was declined.
In response to this, Minnesota Timberwolves legend Kevin Garnett told Ant to win Finals MVP instead.
Eff it! Go get Finals MVP then @anthonyedwards 😤😤😤 https://t.co/rZcvFCt9zu

After the ruling came out, I made my stance clear: Ant is missing three extra games than Luka, and Cade makes his case inherently weaker. Furthermore, I've argued that another All-NBA team honor, while a nice nod, is small potatoes in the grand scheme of things. Still, Ant could certainly use the NBA's ruling as an extra source of motivation in the playoffs. As such, I think Garnett's message for Ant is perfect.
All season long, Ant's lone goal has been to bring the Wolves their first-ever championship. I'm sure that's never wavered in his mind, but KG's response is a reminder to fans that Ant and the Wolves have bigger fish to fry.
Ant bringing a championship to Minnesota would make everyone forget about regular season awards
You might think this is an unrealistic goal, given the Wolves' brutal path to a title and general inconsistent play throughout the season. I've expressed my doubts about the Wolves' ability to win at the highest level, and it's not a certainty that they can even get by the Denver Nuggets in the first-round.
However, to win big, you have to dream big. Additionally, after back-to-back conference finals runs, the next step for the Wolves is a championship. Likewise, with Anthony Edwards on your side, you always have a chance to win any given series. Timberwolves fans can't lose sight of this goal despite their rollercoaster season, and Garnett is making sure this won't happen.
Garnett has recently rejoined the Wolves as team ambassador after being absent from the organization since his retirement. After so many years of distance (due to a bad relationship with Glen Taylor), it's nice to see KG openly supporting the team and setting the bar sky high.
Ant leading the Timberwolves to a championship would be one of the most impressive runs ever. Dirk Nowitzki's improbable 2011 run with the Dallas Mavericks is the only other one that comes to mind. The Wolves would have to beat the aforementioned Nuggets, likely followed by two 60-win teams in the Oklahoma City Thunder and San Antonio Spurs, and then whoever comes out of the East.
It's not far-fetched to say this would be the most impressive feat we've ever seen from a 24-year-old star. Without a doubt, this would be the perfect way for Anthony Edwards to remind everyone of his greatness and get revenge for missing out on All-NBA honors.
