On Sunday, the Minnesota Timberwolves’ YouTube channel posted a one-on-one interview featuring Michael Grady and Kevin Garnett. The franchise legend was asked a multitude of things, such as the Minneapolis sports scene during his heyday, along with the current roster.
KG was asked by Grady for his thoughts on Anthony Edwards and he was effusive in his praise.
"Young fella’s a throwback. Young fella could have played in our time," Garnett said. "You gotta have an unbelievable confidence in what you’re doing, and I really feel like the work builds up that confidence... Anthony Edwards has a yesteryear attitude when it comes to competing."
In an era where sometimes it feels like stars of the past don’t fully recognize the greatness of the current stars, and vice versa, KG’s response was refreshing to hear.
Garnett has nothing but respect for Ant
Another refreshing thing to hear was Garnett speaking on behalf of the Timberwolves. Of course, there was a well-publicized spat between him and former owner Glen Taylor, which led to KG not wanting anything to do with the team for many years.
With new ownership, Garnett and the team finally made amends, and he rejoined the Timberwolves as a team ambassador in mid-December. It was announced that the franchise’s best player will finally see his No. 21 hung from the rafters at some point, obviously a move that is long overdue.
So this one-on-one interview went many years without the possibility of happening. The interview also made it rather evident that Garnett is a huge fan of Edwards.
Sometimes Ant-Man’s remarks can be taken as brash and/or cocky. One thing is for sure, though: the 24-year-old hates to lose. The Timberwolves have come close to the mountaintop in back-to-back seasons, and Edwards knows further improvements need to be made to ensure that day of raising the Larry O'Brien Trophy comes at some point.
Earlier in the interview, Garnett talked about players who spent countless hours in the gym, and it was clear who those players were. In today’s game, that defines Edwards. Each year in the league, Edwards continues to further work on his game and makes noticeable improvements. He respects the opponent, but he is doing everything in his power to ensure he and his team come out on top.
In an era of guys like Charles Barkley and Shaquille O'Neal sometimes belittling the current players and talking down on today's game, Garnett made it known that he respects where the game is now. Ant-Man is one of those players who is must-watch and makes the product so fun to sit down and enjoy.
