With LaMelo Ball on board, the Minnesota Timberwolves will be looking to finally get over the hump next year and make it out of the Western Conference. They have reshaped their roster, and with Ball and Anthony Edwards leading the way, they have the top-end talent to do something special. But Ball’s presence could help the depth, too. More specifically, he could help Jaden McDaniels.
During the Wolves’ playoff run last year, McDaniels proved that he had more offensive talent than meets the eye. Without him, they may not have made it out of their first-round series against the Denver Nuggets. And now, with Ball on the team as the primary playmaker, McDaniels may have a chance to thrive on offense more than ever before.
Playing alongside a passer as elite as Ball could open up the offense for McDaniels to be the best version of himself.

McDaniels clearly has offensive talent. His ability to put the ball on the floor, get to the rim, and finish was on full display in the playoffs last year, and the Wolves need to tap into that more.
He was even able to score from the mid-range pretty consistently. Trusting McDaniels to do more on that side of the ball could help take some of the load off Edwards while also replacing Julius Randle’s production.
But Ball’s impact on the offense has a chance to really help McDaniels thrive, as he will be able to set up the Wolves forward for more easy buckets than ever before.
Ball is one of the best playmakers in the league. There’s a reason the Wolves traded for him to run their offense. His passing skills are on another level, and everyone should benefit from them.
McDaniels, though, may have the most to gain. Not only can Ball help find him for more open threes from beyond the arc, but he should open up driving lanes for McDaniels to attack.
Whether that be on backdoor cuts or swing passes that lead to McDaniels attacking late close-outs. The point is, Ball’s playmaking abilities should give McDaniels more advantageous offensive looks than ever.
And there’s no better time for him to improve on that end than now. Not only do the Wolves need it, but he’s clearly ready for it, as he showed in the postseason last year.
