The Minnesota Timberwolves provided an official update on Donte DiVincenzo's toe injury on Friday afternoon, and it is a more positive one than many of us would have thought. In the release from the team, it was revealed that DiVincenzo will not require surgery for his ailment, which should warrant a huge sigh of relief from the fanbase.

Donte reportedly sought a second opinion on his injury and was evaluated by Dr. J. Chris Coetzee at Twin Cities Orthopedics "for a stress fluoroscopy of the left great toe per the recommendation of Dr. Richard Ferkel at Southern California Orthopedic Institute and Dr. Robert Anderson at OrthoCarolina. The exam showed a stable turf toe injury with a partial tear of the plantar ligament, not requiring surgery."

The report also states that DiVincenzo will be re-evaluated in three weeks by the team, and that further updates of his progress will be shared as soon as they are available. Again, this is a big change from the report we got less than a week ago, and in the best way possible.

DiVincenzo is set to be re-evaluated in three weeks

We knew before that Donte suffered his left great toe injury on Wednesday, January 15 at the end of Minnesota's home game against the Golden State Warriors. This past Monday, it was reported that he had suffered a Grade 3 sprain in that left toe, and the timeline given at the time was simply that he was out indefinitely.

The general consensus for a timeline on this type of injury did not initially seem to be a very brief one, and it was thought that he could potentially miss several months. Now, we may be angling toward avoiding such a disastrous circumstance.

A three-weeks date for re-evaluation following the injury means we will get an update on Donte's progress no later than Wednesday, February 5. Ideally, he will be back on the court not long after that.
