While the Minnesota Timberwolves do not have a player taking part in EuroBasket, they did have one taking part in the AmeriCup. Forward Leonard Miller took part in the tournament with Canada. With Canada having lost in the bronze medal game on Sunday, it was an overall disappointing showing for the 21-year-old.
Leonard Miller never dominated like he should have at the AmeriCup
After losing in the semifinals to Argentina, Canada fell by the score of 90-85 to USA in the bronze medal game. Canada entered the semifinals 4-0 after going 3-0 in group play, and then winning their quarterfinals matchup.

Gonna need something from their NBA guys Kyshawn George & Leonard Miller.

AmeriCup should have been a chance for Miller to shine. The only other NBA player on Canada’s roster is Kyshawn George of the Wizards. Against lesser competition than what is seen in the NBA, this could have been a showcase event for Miller. In the bronze medal game, Canada played a USA team with a few former NBA players, such as Langston Galloway and Jerian Grant, but none who are currently on an NBA roster.
Instead, Miller didn’t have the impact that Wolves fans hoped for. In the semifinals loss, he scored 11 points and grabbed nine rebounds. While he shot better in the second half, he still finished with fewer points than shot attempts (12). In the semifinals loss to Argentina, Miller made just two of his 12 field goal attempts.
It would have been nice to see the 6-foot-10 forward truly dominate in at least a couple of games, but that was never the case. In the six outings, Miller never scored more than 14 points. He went just 2-12 from beyond the arc and didn’t show the aggressiveness needed to be a frequent visitor of the free-throw line (11-17).
Miller has barely played for Timberwolves in his first two seasons
Selected 33rd overall in the 2023 NBA Draft, Miller has barely played for Minnesota in his first two seasons. He has appeared in a grand total of just 30 games for 84 minutes.
It’s an important year for Miller as he has a team option for the 2026-27 season. While his option is only for about $2.4 million, the Timberwolves may still decline it if Miller has another year of minimal playing time.
The AmeriCup should have been an opportunity for Miller to instill some confidence in the team regarding his future prospects. Instead, Miller may have given them less confidence in him. It’s hard to see, barring a few injuries, how Miller will receive regular minutes from head coach Chris Finch on a team with championship aspirations.
