2024 NBA Mock Draft: Timberwolves grab seasoned prospect, Wizards reach for center
By Austin McGee
10. Utah Jazz - Ja'Kobe Walter, Baylor
After completely dismantling the team a few years ago, the Utah Jazz are suddenly a deep squad. Utah runs almost two-deep at every position. Despite the depth, the Jazz are without a true complementary scorer alongside Lauri Markkanen.
Sure, Utah has several endearing options such as Collin Sexton, Jordan Clarkson, John Collins, and Keyonte George. Still, a common theme amongst the aforementioned players is their lack of positional versatility.
Baylor's Ja'Kobe Walter is only 6-foot-4 but possesses a 6-foot-10 wingspan. He's also 200 pounds at 19-years-old which bodes well for future positional flexibility. At this stage in his career, Walter works best as an off-the-ball scorer.
He doesn't offer much ball-handling juice as his dribble package is somewhat limited. Walter either attempts to get past his defender using his speed or goes to a crossover when things go awry. His spot-up shooting is what separates Walter from other prospects.
The Baylor wing shot just 34.1 percent from beyond the arc, but he looked good doing so. Walter is an uber-confident shooter. He excels coming off screens and hand-offs to get open looks. His offensive game isn't the most robust just yet. Nonetheless, his game screams primary or secondary scoring potential.
