23. Milwaukee Bucks - Tyler Smith, G-League Ignite
Selecting Tyler Smith of the G-League Ignite feels like a John Hammond-esque choice. The current Orlando Magic senior advisor and former Milwaukee Bucks general manager made a living selecting lanky, raw forwards.
Smith is a 19-year-old, versatile forward who averaged 13.5 points, 1.0 blocks and shot 36.4 percent on 4.0 long-range looks per game. The lefty forward has a smooth shooting stroke with a high release point.
While Milwaukee is set in the frontcourt, the Bucks are suddenly one of the oldest teams in the association. Adding Smith bodes extremely well for the future. He fits nicely next to franchise centerpiece Giannis Antetokounmpo as forward or center.
What makes Smith an intriguing prospect is his potential. He's still adding muscle—listed 205 as a senior in high school, then 224 pounds a season ago. If Smith bulks up to 230 pounds, he'll likely improve on the defensive end.
The Ignite forward has the size and athleticism to become a quality defender, but he's far from it. Smith's lack of defensive IQ and intensity were apparent in the G-League. He often looked lost when defending both the pick-and-roll and away from the ball.
