It is a difficult time for many Minnesota Timberwolves fans. Although media day occurred on Monday and the season is just around the corner, the fanbase now knows they will be venturing forth without Karl-Anthony Towns. Dealt to the New York Knicks on Friday, Towns will suit up with a team besides the Timberwolves for the first time in his career.
It is understandable that many are still just trying to wrap their heads around the idea of a season beginning in Minnesota without KAT. Certainly even the coaches and other players likely found it strange to walk into the Target Center for media day and not see Karl or hear his voice.
But regardless of the bizarre nature of the situation, the Timberwolves are after a championship, and they need not let something like this slow them down. Even still, some of the Wolves players took the time to reflect on the trade during the media day activities on Monday.
Anthony Edwards of course weighed in. "I think everybody knows KAT is my brother," he said. "So that definitely hurts, but it's a business. So I've just gotta run with it ... I'm ready to get to know , and try to get it figured out as fast as we can."
Edwards was disappointed to lose KAT, but not dwelling on it
An appropriate reaction from the Timberwolves' young star. As he said, everyone could tell the kind of connection he had with Towns, so of course losing him is disappointing for Ant in a way. But at the same time, he knows the nature of the league and knows not to sulk about this. Edwards showed that he remains forward-thinking and championship-minded with this response.
Ant also discussed building his relationship with Towns over the first four seasons of his career. "It was incredible," said Edwards. "That's what we talked about once I landed. We talked on the phone through messages and we were just talking to each other about how everything, like how it started, and he sent me a picture of him in the gym at like three in the morning. So that was kind of funny."
It seems that Ant will always have some type of connection to KAT simply due to the nature of how he was his mentor coming into the league. It is heartwarming to see that Edwards retains fond memories of Towns as his teammate, while also being focused on the future and bringing a championship to Minnesota.
