We are currently witnessing one of the greatest eras of prosperity in Minnesota Timberwolves history. The team has now been to the playoffs in three consecutive seasons for the first time since the mid-2000s, and this past season's 56-win campaign could be just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to what this franchise can achieve.
But caught up in all the excitement are the same speculative media-driven narratives that surround any team in the association. Make no mistake about it, the Timberwolves are an extremely unproblematic team, but the mainstream media tends to push ideas to generate clicks. One of the biggest misconceptions in Minnesota is concerning Anthony Edwards and Karl-Anthony Towns' relationship.
These two are obviously 1A and 1B when it comes to offensive options on this team. But a narrative that they do not get along or one does not want to see the other succeed has been pushed. Recently, Karl-Anthony Towns made a guest appearance on Podcast P with Paul George to debunk this myth.
Towns left no doubt about he and Ant's relationship
"I feel it's weird the media tries to make it seem like I don't want Ant to succeed," Towns said. "I'm the biggest Ant cheerleader I can be. Biggest fan. I want to see him win, I want to see him grow to be the face of the NBA. I want to see him do things that have never been done in the NBA before. I want to see that."
This was already pretty obvious to any Timberwolves fans that follow the team and know the personalities of these players. Both are star-level talents, but neither has any sort of selfish mindset of wanting to take success away from a teammate. Honestly, it is probably hard to find the level of chemistry Ant and KAT have anywhere around the league.
Towns went on to tell a funny story about seeing an Anthony Edwards fan overseas. While in Rome with his wife, he apparently stumbled upon someone wearing a Timberwolves number five jersey. "I saw someone walking down the street with an Anthony Edwards jersey," KAT said. "I ran that boy down. I said, 'yo, that jersey's fire.' He looked at me like, 'Karl?' And I was like, 'let me get a photo of this real quick.' Took my phone out, looked like a tourist taking a photo, man gave me a thumbs up and all. I sent it to Ant."
It should be pretty clear to everyone by now that Karl-Anthony Towns and Anthony Edwards have a closer bond than probably the average teammates in the NBA. Analysts can continue to nitpick and make up stories out of thin air, but anyone paying attention can see that these two get along like brothers.
