As the Minnesota Timberwolves' offseason continues, management has done an excellent job of preparing the roster to be potentially even better next season. The loss of Kyle Anderson was lessened by the addition of Joe Ingles, and a duo of talented rookies coming in will help elevate this group from the jump as well.
Now, the next biggest event on the calendar for several Timberwolves players is the 2024 Olympics. The event will take place in Paris and will officially begin on July 26, concluding on August 11. During that time frame, several players from Minnesota will be suiting up for their respective countries and representing them on the highest stage of international competition.
This massive event is of course highly prestigious and winning a gold medal is every player's priority. But for the individual players, it can be something of a springboard to even more greatness once they depart the international competition. Anthony Edwards, for example, has mentioned multiple times how big his involvement with Team USA at the World Cup in 2023 was for his career and development.
Here, we will review each Timberwolves player participating with their respective national team to earn the gold medal in basketball.
List of Timberwolves Olympians by country
Of course, Anthony Edwards is the most prominent name on our list, representing the United States. From there, Nickeil Alexander-Walker is suiting up for Canada, Rudy Gobert will represent France, and newcomer Joe Ingles will compete with Australia. As of right now, the US continues to look like the favorite to take home the gold.
United States
- Anthony Edwards - As previously stated, Edwards joins the US Olympic team after a stellar first experience at the international level in the World Cup last summer. The experience clearly propelled him to even greater heights in the NBA this past season, and now Ant sees himself as the top option on a stacked United States team.
Canada
- Nickeil Alexander-Walker - Perhaps the second-most talented roster at the Olympics, Canada boasts another impressive collection of NBA talent. Nickeil Alexander-Walker will bring his lockdown perimeter defense and timely shooting to their team, while Jamal Murray, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Dillon Brooks and others will round out a formidable team that will have the potential to give the US a run for their money.
France
- Rudy Gobert - Gobert heads up the defensive effort for Team France right alongside Victor Wembanyama. The two will form a fearsome frontcourt duo and look to improve on the team's bronze medal finish in 2021, in which they finished right behind the United States and host nation Japan.
Australia
- Joe Ingles - The Australian national team, affectionately referred to as the "Boomers," will feature the newest Minnesota Timberwolf in Joe Ingles. Some may want to count out Australia, but they have frequently been a big player in these international competitions, even taking down the US in 2019 at the World Cup and 2021 at the Olympics.
