Former Timberwolves player competing with Bulls in Summer League
By Will Eudy
The Minnesota Timberwolves' roster looks vastly different than it did just a little over a year ago. During the 2022-23 season, the Wolves employed the likes of Taurean Prince, Bryn Forbes, Austin Rivers, D'Angelo Russell, A.J. Lawson, and several other players that are no longer part of the team's roster.
One other now-departed player who was on that team is Nathan Knight. Something of a fan favorite at the Target Center during his time in the Twin Cities, Knight arrived in Minnesota on a two-way deal following the 2020-21 season. He made his first NBA start with the Timberwolves back on December 27, 2021 in a big time win over the Boston Celtics.
Re-joining the team on a one-year deal for the 2022-23 season, Nathan played sparingly but became beloved by the home crowd for his hustle and status as an underdog of sorts on the roster. In the summer of 2023, he left Minnesota to join the New York Knicks on a two-way deal. Following his stint in the Big Apple plus additional time in the G League, Knight found himself looking for a job.
Nathan Knight joined Chicago for Summer League
Despite playing three seasons in the NBA, there was not a guaranteed roster spot anywhere for Nathan. So he did what any self-respecting professional would do at this stage of their career and agreed to play in Summer League. Joining the Chicago Bulls at the Las Vegas Summer League, Knight appeared in two total games.
Nathan's numbers did not exactly pop off the page, but there is still a chance for the former Wolves forward to find his way back into the league. Oftentimes, a team will sign a Summer League participant who did not light up the scoreboard, but made other contributions to winning that matter at the highest level.
Die-hard Timberwolves fans will remember that Knight was part of the 2021-22 team in Minnesota that brought the city one of its most memorable (and meme-able) moments in recent memory when they won the play-in game against the Clippers. Whether Nathan finds another opportunity in the NBA or not, he will likely always be in the memories of Wolves fans.
