Karl-Anthony Towns reveals when he first knew Timberwolves would be special
By Will Eudy
Coming off one of their best seasons in franchise history, the Minnesota Timberwolves will have a tall task ahead of them in trying to one-up an incredible 2023-24 year. They still have all the winning pieces in place, but now the challenge comes with a target on their backs.
Entering last season, the Timberwolves were just another of the talented fringe-playoff teams in the Western Conference. At least, that was how they were seen in the eyes of the national media and fans of other teams. Within Minnesota's locker room, there was already belief that they could achieve everything they ended up doing.
That probably goes without saying, but Karl-Anthony Towns dashed any doubts away when he recently appeared on Podcast P with Paul George. KAT gave his own account of what last season was like, and revealed the exact moment he knew how special they could be. According to the talented big man, it was when they played their first preseason games overseas in Abu Dhabi.
KAT saw Timberwolves' potential in preseason at Abu Dhabi
"I knew we were special when we went to Abu Dhabi and the way we looked so early on in the season," Towns said. "We looked locked in, we looked motivated. Everyone had their own reason for being so motivated, and I think that's what made us so special last year.
"Everyone was fighting for something, whether it was for money, whether it was for respect, whether it was for placement in the league, I think everyone did exactly what they wanted to do and accomplish this year. I know we came up short as a team and obviously we were all hurt by that ... but to know that we feel that could be our floor, I think that's something special."
KAT goes on to say that the beginning of this past season represented a shift in that Minnesota went from believing they could be championship contenders to seeing it actually come to fruition. It felt as if Towns took the thoughts of every Timberwolves fan and put them all into the microphone during this podcast.
This franchise has been through plenty of tough times in its history, and now the Minnesota faithful is getting to see all of their loyalty rewarded in one shining new era.
