Predicting the Timberwolves' floor and ceiling for the 2024-25 season
By Austin McGee
After seeing a 14-win increase (third largest positive win percentage differential in the NBA from 2023 to 2024), the Minnesota Timberwolves are garnering national attention. Although the ascension is sudden, the Wolves are here to stay thanks to a sensational defense and bona fide superstar in Anthony Edwards.
Edwards parlayed his regular and postseason success into a Gold Medal in the Paris Olympics. Edwards' opponent in the Gold Medal match? None other than his teammate Rudy Gobert. Minnesota's success carried into the offseason and it hasn't gone unnoticed. Media outlets are showing the Wolves the utmost respect for the first time in what seems like two decades.
Between Bleacher Report, ESPN, and NBA.com, each outlet placed Minnesota in the top five in their renditions of an offseason power rankings. The Western Conference Finals appearance helped the Wolves gain momentum, but it's been a long time coming for Minnesota and a retooled roster should only ensure future success.
Entering the 2024-25 NBA season, an improvement would be an NBA Finals appearance. Although that's quite a lofty goal, the Wolves were three wins away from such a feat a season ago. It's not a stretch to label Minnesota as a title favorite—ESPN has given the Wolves the sixth-best odds of bringing home the Larry O'Brien Trophy.
Minnesota's ceiling is a championship, but what's the Timberwolves' floor?
