Ranking the 10 best games of the Timberwolves regular season
By James Siems
2. November 6 – vs. Boston Celtics (114-109)
Top Performance(s):
Anthony Edwards – 38 points, 9 rebounds, 7 assists
Jaden McDaniels – 20 points
The third game on this list from the Timberwolves' early season seven-game win-streak, this overtime win against the previously undefeated Boston Celtics put Minnesota on the map. Facing off against the top, young wing-duo in the league in Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, Edwards and McDaniels put on a show.
Edwards scored 13 points in the fourth quarter and overtime. McDaniels added 12, including two huge 3-point makes. McDaniels played 45 minutes of lockdown defense and Edwards performed admirably guarding Tatum in the late stages of the game despite playing with five fouls.
The 22 and 23-year-old's performances were enough to overcome an extremely poor showing from Towns, Gobert going 2-of-11 from the free throw line, and 23 turnovers from the team. It was after defeating the Celtics, who would go on to win over 60 games, that Minnesota began to be viewed as a top team in the Western Conference.
After the November 6 game, basketball personality and Celtics fan, Bill Simmons, admitted that Minnesota was a team that worried him in a Celtics finals matchup due to the Wolves' length and defensive tenacity.
