The Minnesota Timberwolves were more than convinced they wanted Rob Dillingham on their roster next season. Knowing they needed a guard to eventually take the mantle of starting point guard from Mike Conley, President Tim Connelly authorized the bold move of trading up into the lottery to acquire the University of Kentucky guard.

Now, a team that reigned as the top team in the Western Conference for much of last season will be adding a top-level talent to their roster. Dillingham is expected to play legitimate minutes in his rookie season, and based on what he has shown us so far, it appears he will be able to make an immediate impact as well.

Over the course of Minnesota's Summer League campaign, Rob had his ups and downs as all rookies do. But he gradually improved as the slate of games went on. Now, with the entire league in the rearview, the numbers are beginning to show just how great his overall impact was.

Rob Dillingham created more points than any rookie in Summer League

Out of all the rookies to take part in at least two Summer League games, Dillingham ranked first in total points scored, assisted or otherwise created. He played in five total games for the Wolves in Las Vegas, contributing to 170 total points and an average of 34.0 per game.

One can make the argument that this does not mean anything for his long-term development, but I would argue that this is an indisputable sign of promise for his sky-high potential. Being a multi-faceted offensive creator is an extremely valuable skillset in this league, and Rob is already showing us why he can be a staple in Minnesota for years to come.

Numbers like this only make Timberwolves' management look smarter as they continue improving a championship-caliber team from within.
