In the past week, Rudy Gobert has been subject to some intense criticism from his peers. Of course, this is far from unusual for him, as Gobert is frequently targeted with NBA hot takes and undeserved verbal attacks from pundits, former players and the like. Minnesota Timberwolves fans are more than used to seeing these things unfold.

But this time, things seemed to reach a boiling point when Shaquille O'Neal called Rudy the worst player in NBA history. Whether Shaq truly believes that or not is a separate discussion, but there is no doubt the statement was out of line either way.

It was such an over-the-top uncalled for moment that Rudy, known for usually keeping to himself and not paying attention to the noise, actually pushed back on Shaq. He called out the Hall-of-Fame center on X, scolding him for being so bitter over another man's wealth and success.

Timberwolves fans have of course continued defending their big man on social media as well. But after a recent update on Monday, it looks like Rudy will be able to protect himself just fine going forward.

Gobert was seen training with former UFC fighter Ciryl Gane

In the wake of these absurd statements trying to minimize Gobert's accomplishments, the four-time Defensive Player of the Year has started training with former French UFC fighter Ciryl Gane. A post showed Rudy sporting gloves and getting some work in with the former heavyweight champion.

The two took part in a training session at the MMA Factory located in Paris. With both athletes being natives of France, it was likely a friendly session, but one that helped both learn something new as well.

When someone like Gobert is under their heaviest criticism, it is only natural to want to get in the gym and sharpen your body along with your mind. Obviously Rudy will not be using any of his newly-learned moves on the basketball court, but he put himself in the right mindset amidst all the noise.
