Timberwolves single-season scoring records for PPG and total points
By Will Eudy
Entering their 36th season as a franchise, there have been countless talented scorers to don the Minnesota Timberwolves uniform. From the obvious ones like Anthony Edwards and Kevin Garnett, all the way to more underrated players like Wally Szczerbiak.
If we look at the big picture of NBA history, it becomes obvious that scoring picked up quite a bit when teams began to shoot a significantly larger amount of three-pointers somewhere around a decade ago. That makes the scoring numbers from around the mid-2010s until now just a bit inflated.
When looking at the Timberwolves' leaderboards for scoring numbers in a single season, there are several interesting bits of data, and the players at the top are not always who you would expect them to be. Here, we will break down Minnesota's single-season leaders in both points per game as well as total points scored in a Wolves uniform.
Timberwolves single season PPG leader: Karl-Anthony Towns
Karl-Anthony Towns holds the highest points per game average in a single season in Minnesota's history with 26.5 points per game. He achieved this feat in the 2019-20 season while playing in just 35 games.
From there, the runner up in single-season PPG is Kevin Love, who scored 26.1 points per game during his monster 2013-14 season where he put his name on the map as one of the most lethal scorers in the association. The top five is rounded out by Kevin Love in 2011-12, Anthony Edwards in 2023-24, and KAT in 2016-17.
Timberwolves single-season total points leader: Karl-Anthony Towns
Surprise, Karl-Anthony Towns is also your total points leader for a single season in Timberwolves history. His record came during the 2016-17 season where he logged 2,061 total points while playing all 82 games for Minnesota.
In second place is Anthony Edwards once again from the 2023-24 season, where he logged 2,049 points. Rounding out the top five is Kevin Love in 2013-14 with 2,010 points, Kevin Garnett in 2003-04 with 1,987 points, and Anthony Edwards in 2022-23, with 1,946 points.
