The Minnesota Timberwolves are gearing up for the start of the season, which is just around the corner at this point. Media day will take place on Monday, September 30 at Target Center, followed by training camp and five preseason games.

When the Wolves finally take the floor in the regular season, the roster is likely to look extremely similar to last year's team, given how little turnover occurred in the offseason. However, some roster cuts will still be made after the conclusion of preseason. Minnesota must finalize their roster by October 21.

But this week, the Timberwolves made an additional roster cut that seemed to come from out of nowhere. On Thursday, the team's communications department announced that Trevor Keels had been waived. This news came just two days after Trevor signed a training camp contract with Minnesota.

The Timberwolves have waived Trevor Keels

Tuesday was when it was reported that Keels had agreed to a deal with the Timberwolves, presumably on an exhibit-10 or similar deal. It seemed that he would be joining the team for training camp, but that will no longer be the case following his waiving.

This likely paves the way for Trevor to join Minnesota's G League team, the Iowa Wolves, who he played for last season. However, it still remains unclear why he was signed to a contract and then promptly cut just two days later.

But either way, this can still be a positive step forward for Keels, and Timberwolves fans can continue keeping up with him if he remains with the Iowa Wolves. Trevor began his professional basketball career with the New York Knicks, spending part of his rookie season with the Westchester Knicks of the G League in 2022-23.

When he made the move to the Iowa Wolves for the 2023-24 season, Keels put up 13.5 points and 3.7 assists per game for the season as a whole. He is still looking to find his footing, but Trevor has shown some promising flashes of potential at both ends of the floor. He will certainly be a prospect for the fanbase to continue following in the G League this season.
