The Minnesota Timberwolves are looking to remain atop the Western Conference standings on Sunday when they take on the Dallas Mavericks.
Dallas got Kyrie Irving back in the lineup three games ago, but the team did not have Luka Doncic in a win over the Portland Trail Blazers. The All-NBA guard is listed as questionable for this matchup.
Does that give the Wolves an edge in the betting market? Oddsmakers have favored the team on the road, a spot it is familiar with this season. Minnesota has been favored as a road team 11 times in 18 road games.

Timberwolves vs. Mavericks key players to watch
Anthony Edwards: The former No. 1 overall pick is playing some of his best basketball of the season, averaging 31.9 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 4.9 assists per game since Dec. 16 (11 games). He could be in line for a big scoring game against Dallas, who ranks just 18th in defensive rating.
Rudy Gobert: This is a dream matchup on the glass for Gobert, as the Mavericks are down a key big in Lively (doubtful) and already rank 28th in the league in rebounding percentage. This could be a big game for all of Minnesota’s bigs.
Kyrie Irving: With Doncic questionable, this could be a game where Dallas relies on Irving heavily. Doncic missed the team’s last game, and Irving scored 24 points in 29 minutes in a win over Portland.
Minnesota’s defense will be a much tougher task, since it is No. 1 in the NBA, but Irving has 53 points in his last two games to go with 18 rebounds and 10 assists.
Timberwolves vs. Mavericks prediction and pick
The key in this game will be Doncic’s status, as bettors should be aware that if he’s ruled in – or out – it could massively alter the line in this game.
Regardless, I think Minnesota is worth a shot at this price on the moneyline, especially if Doncic doesn’t end up playing.
The Timberwolves come into this game 6-5 against the spread as a road favorite, and they are 9-2 straight up in those 11 games.
Meanwhile, Dallas is just 1-3 straight up and against the spread as a home underdog in the 2023-24 season. The Mavericks are facing an uphill battle with Kleber out and Lively doubtful, giving a strong rebounding team in Minnesota a huge advantage on the glass.
That’s where I think the Wolves can make the difference in the game, as they should be able to limit Dallas (28th in rebounding percentage) to a lot of one-shot trips.
Even with Irving healthy, I can’t get behind Dallas if Doncic is up in the air. Take Minnesota at this current price.
