The Minnesota Timberwolves are hitting the road after squandering a historic performance by Karl Anthony-Towns, who put up a franchise record 62 points on Monday in a 128-125 loss to Charlotte. What better way to bounce back from back-to-back defeats to finish a homestand than against the dreadful Wizards?

Washington is just 1-9 this month and have won at home just once since Dec. 15. The Wizards are getting double-digit points on Wednesday when they welcome in the Timberwolves, but can they hang around?

Here’s a betting preview for Wednesday with a best bet.

Timberwolves vs. Wizards key players to watch

Timberwolves

Nickeil Alexander-Walker: Lost in Anthony-Towns’ 62-point performance was Alexander-Walker, who started for the first time in seven games. The former first-round pick was 6-of-9 from the field, knocked down four 3-pointers and finished with 18 points, his most since scoring 20 against the Utah Jazz on Nov. 30.

Wizards

Kyle Kuzma: Kuzma has been one of the only things to cheer about in Washington this season. He is averaging 21.8 points per game (34th in the NBA) to go with 6.4 rebounds and 4.3 assists. Over the weekend in a pair of losses, Kuzma had a double-double against San Antonio and 17 points, six rebounds and seven assists against Denver.

Timberwolves vs. Wizards prediction and pick

Minnesota is in a prime get-right spot on the road against the lowly Wizards after dropping back-to-back games on a brief homestand.

The Timberwolves need to get back on track to keep up with the Oklahoma City Thunder and Denver Nuggets for the No. 1 spot in the Western Conference and there’s no better matchup than against Washington, which is 7-12 ATS at home this season.

The Wizards haven’t won at home since Dec. 29 (Brooklyn) and have a nightmare matchup on paper against a Timberwolves’ defense that is No. 1 in defensive rating and scoring (107.8 points per game). That defense will right the ship after allowing the Hornets to shoot 56.8% from the field on Monday and make 14 3-pointers.

The Wizards have allowed 113-plus points in six consecutive home games. Lay the points with Minnesota in a blowout.
