Zion Williamson lists Timberwolves player as one of NBA's best trash talkers
By Will Eudy
For those that have been fortunate enough to sit courtside at an NBA game before, it is apparent that one of the most entertaining parts of taking in a game right by the floor is hearing the trash talk from the players. People who do not know the culture around basketball or never played it themselves may not be aware of how much talking goes on during a typical game.
There are plenty of communicative shouts and signals given between teammates like in a basketball game at any level. But there are also the adrenaline-filled yells seeking to patronize an opponent and gain some sort of a competitive mental edge. This is where the fun is.
We know all about the great trash talkers of history, one of which is the greatest Minnesota Timberwolves player of all-time in Kevin Garnett. Now, it appears that in the new generation, Anthony Edwards has stepped in to take the mantle of king of the trash talkers from KG.
Recently, Overtime asked Zion Williamson and other NBA players about which guys in the league are the best trash talkers. When Williamson was asked what the craziest trash talk he has heard in a game was, he responded by explaining that trash talk comes in different forms, but Anthony Edwards was the first name that came to his mind.
Zion lists Edwards as one of the best trash talkers
"There are different styles of trash talking," Zion said. "Like you have Ant. Ant talks trash kind of directly." This certainly lines up with what we have seen from Edwards on the court. The interaction with Kevin Durant during the first round of the 2024 playoffs comes to mind immediately, as does the celebration of the Timberwolves' 20-point comeback in Game 7 against Denver.
Ant is a bit old school in several ways, so it makes sense that his trash talk is straight and to the point, just like most guys did it in the old days. Speaking of Durant, Williamson also mentioned KD and Kyrie as different types of trash talkers he has picked up on as well.
It feels like Ant's fearlessness and competitiveness that leads him to talking trash so openly is one of the things that makes him most endearing to fans in Minnesota. His trash talk is yet another reason he is on his way to one day being the best player in Timberwolves history.
