On the day that the NBA season starts and the eve of the Minnesota Timberwolves' season opener, Slam Magazine revealed a new cover featuring Anthony Edwards. The cover is titled "Hunting Season," featuring Wolves in the background and on the Slam text. Edwards is sporting the beloved classic Timberwolves jersey that the team is bringing back this season.

This will be the third time that Edwards has graced the iconic magazine's cover. He previously was on a cover entitled "Everybody Loves Anthony Edwards" in 2021 and "The Poster Child" after his absurd dunk over John Collins in 2024. Notably, Edwards is the first Timberwolf to be featured on the cover of Slam since Naz Reid in the summer of 2024.
As the player featured on the cover of Slam, just before the season starts, it's fair to say the bar is being set high. The title of "Hunting Season" further adds to this idea, and Slam is setting it up as the season of Ant-Man.
After back-to-back Western Conference finals appearances, the Wolves are ready to make a championship leap. Now that will be difficult in a loaded Western Conference. However, with Edwards and a well-rounded core, it's certainly possible. At 24, Edwards is already one of the league's most proven playoff performers, and he's only getting better.
Ant and the Wolves are looking to take the next step
After losing to the Oklahoma City Thunder in the conference finals, Edwards has been adamant about improving and helping the Wolves reach the next level. Edwards has been open that he is still a notch below Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Luka Dončić. Over the offseason, Edwards has been focused on improving as a playmaker and mid-range scorer to reach this next level of superstars.
Edwards has steadily improved his game each year, including becoming one of the league's best 3-point shooters last season. Notably, Edwards ranked first for total made 3s. It's likely that Edwards can improve his flaws and take his game to the next level. If this is paired with ample team success (which is a likely possibility), Edwards could break into the MVP race.
This helps, explains the Hunting Season title. and the caption "Whole league in his sights. Walk carefully..." However, the other key part is that Edwards is trying to lift the Wolves to a championship. The defending champion Thunder is the clear standard and target. Additionally, the Denver Nuggets and Houston Rockets made significant offseason improvements.
Despite making two straight Western Conference finals, many people are counting them out, placing them as the conference's fourth-best team (or lower). Edwards and the Wolves certainly have taken note of this and are ready to make another statement.
In the last two playoffs, Edwards has already defeated elite players, including Nikola Jokić, Kevin Durant, Luka Dončić, and LeBron James. While taking down a loaded Thunder squad and/or other incredible teams in the West, the Wolves have the leader to do that. The sky is truly the limit for Edwards and the Wolves this season.
Ultimately, Edwards will be a key talking point across the national media this season, and the Slam cover further confirms this.
